Awake, Wendy Mataija's solo exhibition, ran from August

9-13, 2023 at the Show Gallery in Toronto. The exhibition featured paintings that are specular, colorful and in some cases, intentionally incomplete. The highly reflective figurative paintings are only “done” when the viewer approaches each painting, observing, adding and immersing their own image to each piece. They are only “art" or "paintings” in so much as we experience our selves, our happiness, our sadness, through our perception of ourselves within each painting. Wendy's exhibition is a reflection of bodies – disabled or other – moving in parallel with art and science.
